The Indian Super League (ISL) 2026–27 season has begun
with competitive matches, dramatic finishes and unexpected
results. The opening fixtures have already given football
fans several reasons to look forward to the weeks ahead.
An Exciting Start to the New Season
The opening matches have shown that the new ISL campaign
could be an unpredictable one. Several teams have secured
important victories, while others have discovered how
difficult it can be to turn promising performances into
points.
Late goals and narrow scorelines have been important
features of the early action. These results underline
the importance of concentration, tactical discipline
and effective decision-making throughout the full 90 minutes.
Bengaluru FC Show Their Fighting Spirit
Bengaluru FC opened their campaign with a dramatic 3–2
victory over Sporting Club Delhi on October 10, 2026.
Menno Koch scored the decisive goal in the 89th minute,
giving Bengaluru a memorable start to the season.
The result highlighted Bengaluru’s determination to keep
fighting until the final whistle. Sporting Club Delhi,
despite the defeat, showed that they could compete in
a closely contested encounter.
Kerala Blasters Begin with a Clean Sheet
Kerala Blasters FC recorded a 2–0 victory over Inter Kashi
on October 11. Starting with three points and a clean sheet
provides a useful foundation for the Kerala side.
Supporters will now want to see whether the team can
maintain its defensive organisation and attacking
effectiveness in the matches ahead. Consistency will be
more important than a single positive result.
Mohun Bagan Face an Early Test
Mohun Bagan Super Giant suffered a 1–0 defeat against
NorthEast United FC on October 12. Jithin M.S. scored
the decisive goal in stoppage time.
The result was an early reminder that even highly rated
teams must remain focused until the final whistle.
Mohun Bagan will look to respond positively, while
NorthEast United can take confidence from an important win.
Punjab FC Produce a Dramatic Finish
Punjab FC defeated Odisha FC 2–1 on October 14 in one
of the early season’s most dramatic encounters.
After taking an early lead, Punjab saw Odisha fight back
before a stoppage-time winner from Messi Bouli settled
the contest.
The victory gives Punjab valuable early momentum.
Odisha, meanwhile, will need to improve their ability
to manage decisive moments if they want to convert
competitive performances into points.
Three Key Takeaways from the Opening Matches
1. Late Goals Can Change Everything
The opening fixtures have demonstrated the importance
of staying focused until the final whistle. A single
moment can determine whether a team earns three points
or leaves the pitch empty-handed.
2. Strong Squads Still Need Consistency
Individual talent alone cannot guarantee success.
Teamwork, defensive organisation and clinical finishing
will all be necessary for clubs hoping to challenge
near the top of the table.
3. Early Results Are Only the Beginning
A strong start can build confidence, but the league
campaign is a test of consistency. More matches will be
needed before the leading contenders become clear.
Final Verdict: An Encouraging Start for ISL 2026–27
The opening matches have given the Indian Super League
plenty of early excitement. Bengaluru FC have shown
resilience, Kerala Blasters have made a positive start,
NorthEast United have secured a notable win, and Punjab FC
have demonstrated their ability to fight until the end.
It remains too early to predict the eventual champions.
As the season progresses, squad depth, tactical flexibility
and consistency are likely to play major roles in deciding
which clubs emerge as serious contenders.
For football fans, the message is clear: the new ISL
campaign has started with uncertainty and drama, setting
the stage for an intriguing season ahead.
